On June 16, Sam and I flew out to Indiana to attend the wedding of our friends Collin and Kara.
While we were in Indiana, we stayed with our previous Pastor and his family, The Bancrofts. They had moved to Indiana 3 months before where Eric was able to take over the Shepherding and pastoring of the people at Castleview Baptist Church. After spending a few days with the Bancrofts, Sam and I headed down to Tennessee to see some more friends who lived there. It was about a 5 hour drive, in which we drove through Kentucky.
As we started out, I said to Sam that I really wanted to see a fourway stoplight. Sam didnt think we would be able to see any of those as we would be on the freeway. But the desire was still there. While driving through Kentucky, we saw signs for caves all along the freeway. We stopped in a small town looking for some caves, and some breakfast. It was a quaint little town, and only one place was open. It was a diner attached to an antique store. It was a bit let-go, but the people were friendly, and the food was cheap.
After having some breakfast, and being entertained by the conversations of the locals, we headed back to the freeway looking for the caves. On the way out of the small town, we even found my four-way traffic light. A few miles down the road, we found the Mammoth Caves. If you are ever in Kentucky, I would highly recommend you stop and check out these caves. The are the longest known cave system in the world with over 365 miles of mapped and surveyed cave passages. It is still an active cave site, and the underground river that created the caves, is still carving out new passageways. Sam and I did a 2 hour tour around part of the caves. It was so fascinating. After that, we made our way into Tennessee. While in Tennessee, we visited the Hoffmans who were kind enough to provide a tour of downtown Nashville for us. We were also able to catch up with Vince and Robyn Greer, who had only moved into the area from Grace a couple weeks before.
