Hotdogs over the Fire Pit...

A while back, Sam did a job for some people where he pulled a whole lot of bricks out of their landscaping. Well, they have been sitting in our backyard waiting to be put to use. We have been scheming about what we could do with them, and one of our ideas was a fire pit. Sam loves fire, and I like the idea of sitting around a fire with friends. So yesterday was the first day that we have had any free-time to work on this idea and here is how it turned out...

Sam dug a big hole, and then lined it with the bricks. Here it is all lined and ready...

Because we dont have much of a back yard, I really didnt want to give up any space to a "hole in the ground." Also, I didnt want to have to worry about kids playing in the hole or falling in and hurting themselves. So our compromise (and Sam's brilliant idea) was to make a grass top for it that could be removed and replaced.

Here is the top before we put the grass on it...

Here Sam is figuring out some handles so that he can easily remove the grass cover. By this time, it was getting dark, but you can see where the pit is under the board, which is holding up the grass lid.

Then when it was all done, we had to try it out. So we made a fire and heated hotdogs over it for dinner. I am so excited about this addition to our outdoor entertainment area. I cant wait to start having people over for BBQ's and sitting around the fire. Next time though we will have to start a little earlier so that we can get some shots in the daylight.

Has got to be one of the worst idea I have seen yet on Pinterest. Absolute safety hazard.
